Colorado Land Cruisers is a four-wheel drive club based out of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and sanctioned by
Toyota Land Cruisers Association. We are organized to bring together Toyota owning families and individuals interested in exploring Colorado four wheel drive trails.|
From the Presidents Desk: CLC continues to get e-mail from our fans expressing the great job and enjoyment had by all during the Swap Meet and Rally! Now, how do we possibly top it, with a bigger better Rally? The ink has not dried in the books and the questions are being raised whether to skip a year or go for a rally again next summer. We’ll let the rally success simmer a while and shift our focus to another project. "Adopting", volunteering to maintain 370D, i.e. Reynolds Wrap seems to be getting its deserved attention from many club members and it would be great if all CLC would embrace this project. On the recent trip to Reynolds Wrap, I was amazed at the scale of improvements made by the club on its previous visit. The strapping together of many large logs barricading a wetland area from vehicle traffic was quite impressive. Also impressive is the sacrifice of time and money our members gave to begin the project not knowing where it will lead. This kind of enthusiasm can lead to great things! It would be excellent to have $funds to work on a project. Be it volunteering to maintain a trail or an area of many trails sweat comes easy, money is a lot harder. It just so happens the Colorado State Parks could be our daddy. Here are a few examples of the grants 4X4 clubs were awarded in 2000: In 2000, the Colorado State Parks allocated $1,100,000 in grants to motorized recreation projects across the state. The following describes a few of the grants that were awarded to clubs with the same agenda as CLC. The Bighorn 4wheel Drive Club asked for and was funded $30,000 to make improvements to control erosion, clean up and maintain the Holy Cross trail. The Hillbillies 4X4 Club was funded $5,600 to purchase educational materials from Tread Lightly! Leave no Trace, and USFS programs to be distributed to outdoor enthusiasts over the summer months. They also were funded $3,416 to eliminate scattered campfire rings and campsites using "No Camping" signs and installing 11 fire rings at designated campsites. Trailridge Runners 4WD Club in Longmont was funded several thousand to print and distribute full color maps in their region of interest. They are also being funded in 2002 to maintain Left Hand Canyon. And this is my favorite: Thunder Mountain Wheelers is being funded in 2002 to bring all trails currently adopted by the up to the newly adopted Travel Management Sign |
Standard for public lands recommends by the Forest Service. As you can see Colorado State Parks is funding projects right up our alley. The idea of having cash in tow to see a project through gets my juices flowing, how about yours? One of the services provided will help formulate and to plan for a future application. To get a greater scope of the trail projects around the state log on to www.dnr.state.co.us/trails and www.coloradoparks.org. Bring your ideas to a future meeting. And as a wise man once said, " Keep the Shinny Side Up".See you on the trails, Cheers, Charlie
One of many interesting vehicles at the 2001 rallye From the Editors Desk: CLC has put on one awesome swap meet and rallye. I would like to personally thank all that were involved and volunteered their time to make this event possible. It was a great success and it made the club visible to others within TLCA and the Rocky mountain area. The newsletter is alive and well once again. I have returned from the field and you will once again be receiving a monthly newsletter. If you have any Articles, Trip reports (200 words or less), Pictures of your vehicle with small spec sheet digital photo or hardcopy, cartoons or anything you feel should be shared with the club, please get with me at the meetings or email it to me. Thanks again for all your participation in this club. Rod |
