COLORADO LAND CRUISERS

Presidents Notes – June 2000

Have you heard? CLC is now on the web! Thanks to David’s efforts we now have a real, complete with pictures, web page. Take a look and let us know what you think.

We are now in the middle of our prime summer 4 wheeling season. This isn’t the time to find out that your wheel bearings have been saturated with water. I hope you have taken them apart and re-packed them in the comfort of your driveway or garage. While doing some front end work on my FJ40 this last week I discovered that one wheel bearing set was just fine, but the other had take on some water. I hate it when that happens. As the hub cover comes off, there it is, jumping out at you, grease with a strange color. And you know why – water! In this case after I cleaned up the bearings, and examined them, I didn’t detect any damage so I repacked them with my favorite black moly grease. Make sure your Toyota is ready to go before you leave home. You only have to try to fix a destroyed bearing once when you are on the trail to make you believe it is easier to do at home.

Mark you calendars for June 16th and 17th, for CLC’s annual trek to Westcliffe, for the Brighten the SanGres trail cleanup. This is a 2 niter, or a 1 niter, or a fun day trip. The 2 niter leaves Friday evening, while the 1 niter and day trip leave Saturday morning. Plan now.

CLC Run!!! Starting Friday, June 16 and Saturday June 17, 2000

Westcliff, Brighten the Sangres, trail cleanup. Friday, leaving at 6pm and camping out at the Westcliff fair grounds, and another leaving Saturday morning at 6:30am sharp. Some of this group will return Saturday evening, while others will head for Blanca, a class 5 trail, which is NOT for the unprepared or faint of heart. Meet times are 30 minutes prior to leave time. (For anyone not understanding ‘sharp’, means we roll at that time.) Meeting place is the Total station on South Nevada, or highway 115, at Star Ranch Road.

See you at our next meeting, June 20th. Check the July, August and September trip schedules and see which runs will best fit your summer schedule. Then plan on going on a club run. You will enjoy the experience.

I would like to extend our prayers and condolences to Paul and his family with the recent loss of his father. Paul, we are with you.
