President's Report  -  March 2003

Wow, this was a short month.  At the last meeting we discussed the China Wall Trip.  I was out of town and missed this trip, but it sounds like it was a great trip with a great turnout.  We voted to have Darryl send the Newsletter out by regular mail.  This will get it to those without email. In addition, we will publish a list of those whose dues are due.  This will help keep everyone on track.  Since we lost our previous newsletter editor part way through last year, these administrative issues have gotten behind. David is doing a great job getting things back on track.  Please give him Your support.  We also voted to have Pete get more stickers made.  We should have those available at the next meeting.

I have been thinking about the possibility of the Colorado Land Cruisers hosting a TLCA event in Colorado similar to the Dakota Territory Classic. Darryl suggested that we hold a mock event and invite the Rising Sun 4X4 club.  We discussed having a two or three day weekend event in Buena Vista.  There are several trails in that area that we can run.  The ideas are still in their infancy.  If you have any ideas regarding holding an event like this, let me know. Send your suggestions to: president@coloradolandcruisers.org

Our next trip is Chinaman's Gulch on March 29th.  I am scheduled to lead this trip.  This is a great trail that has difficult obstacles for those who want more of a challenge.  Those not up to these challenges can take the bypasses.  There are rumors of a new portion of this trail being opened.  I don't know if it will be open or not.  There is also supposed to be a small dead end spur that is difficult.  It should be a great time.  Hope to see you all there.

The next club meeting is March 18th and will be held at the Western Sizzlin at 8th and Cimmaron at 7:30pm.  See you there.

Reason #789 on Why FJ40’s are Unique

Have you ever heard a FJ40 sigh?  I hadn’t either until the other night.  As some of you may know my wife, Linda has been out of town these past 2 months, and I took her car down to her in Phoenix last week.  And, I now have this nice big garage sitting all empty, so I decided to park the FJ in the garage to do some work.  I had to work on the speedometer, and since it was very cold, I thought this was the best plan.  It worked out quite well and I was able to do the work I needed to do.  Since it was late and since there was no need to move the FJ back out in the drive where it’s usually parked, I left it in the garage.  I didn’t think any thing about it, until I came into the kitchen later in the evening to get a drink of water.  I kept hearing this small sighing sound, and I had no idea what it was.   I checked electric appliances to see if they had been left on, but no everything was off.  I finally opened the door to the garage and went out to see what had been left on.  But no, I didn’t find anything. As I turned to go back in the kitchen, I looked at the FJ and heard this big sigh, sort of like an ‘AHHHHH’.  And I swear, it winked and grinned at me!  Apparently after 31 years, my FJ40, at least since I’ve owned it, has never been in the garage on a cold winter night. See you on the trail.   Darryl

Toyota Trails Trivia

1.      In the Jan/Feb 2003 issue, whats the least expensive FJ45’s asking price?

2.      Who is the author of the article that contains this sentence: “A bitter spouse can take more effort to repair than a busted pinion.”?  (And who doesn’t know that?)

3.      What’s @birfield.com all about?

4.      And last: What’s Henry Brimmer’s license plate number?

Answers to these questions and many others can be found in Toyota Trails, TLCA’s bi-monthly journal.  Oh, you don’t receive it?  Easy fix.  Either join TLCA and become a voting member in CLC and receive the magazine, or renew your membership.  Either way you become a winner along with TLCA and CLC.

Trail Run – Chinaman’s Gulch – Mar 29th

Scheduled meet time is 7:30am at the Western Station, just east of Woodland Park.  Leave time is 8:00am.  Kendall will be the trip leader.  Take pictures and get them to me at the meeting, on a CD – or forward them via Webmaster on the web page.

Next Meeting – Mar 18, 2003 – 7:30pm

Plan on attending CLC’s next meeting.  We are meeting at Western Sizzlin’, corner of 8th St and Cimarron – 221 S. 8th.  Come early and join us, and if you are hungry, Western Sizzlin’ can fix that, and they want us to have them be our place to eat on meeting nights.
