President's Report  ~ March 2005

“Remember we’re all in this together, I’m pullin’ for ya!”

Andy “Minisrule” Johnson

President – CLC

Eagle Rock / Reynolds Wrap – February 19, 2005

No report!!!  Ugh!!!

Cruisers….

Cell phones.  I hate ‘em.  I hate ‘em because they have become a “necessity” of life.  They allow me to call home when I travel, and to receive calls too.  My wife’s cell phone happens to be an AT&T and I guess soon to become Cingular, as the buyout is totally complete.  The bill is now complete with orange lettering that Cingular likes, so it looks pretty official.  When I open the bill, they always have several “extra” things in there trying to get you to buy a new service – one more thing you just can’t live without.  This last month’s bill is hawking a “MobileAssist” program that will provide you with roadside assistance when your ride will not get you there.  On the brochure, is a picture of a red SUV, with a kid leaning out the window, and a lady standing at the rear of the SUV calling for help.  The picture looks like she got stuck in the snow.  Well, OK, that happens.  After all, the snow is about hub deep and SUV’s do get stuck.  I looked at the picture, and as I was about to throw it in the trash, I stopped and took a closer look.  Egad!  That’s not a picture of a SUV, but rather a red FJ60.  Has Cingular no idea that a Landcruiser doesn’t get stuck in snow like that?  Or did the lady have no idea that all she had to do was shift into reverse and back out?  I guess we’ll never know, but Cingular could have just as easily used a picture of a real SUV, you know the 4WD grocery-getters, made by one of the big 3 or so venders, i.e.: Explorer’s or S10’s or Durango’s or Pathfinder’s or ???.  Enough of that!

I had a fun experience with my 1972 FJ40 this past week.  My neighbor came over and said her 2002 Pathfinder wouldn’t start.  It is such fun to drive across the street, and put the jumper cables on and start these new SUV’s.  Especially when you hear that it was in the shop recently for a ??,000 mile checkup which cost $500!

I have an idea.  Come to the meeting this next Tuesday, March 15th.    Maybe we can share one of you exciting experiences with your Landcruiser or mini truck.  CLC needs your help with club events and sharing a day out on one of our monthly runs.  And speaking of going on a run, plan on going to LaSalle pass March 19th.  It’s a pretty area and close, only about 60 miles or so – even has mud this time of the year.  I know how some of you really like to play in the mud.

Get involved,

Darryl
