Colorado Land
Cruisers is a four-wheel drive club based out of Colorado Springs, Colorado,
and sanctioned by Toyota Land Cruisers
Association. We are
organized to bring together Toyota owning families and individuals interested in exploring Colorado four-wheel drive trails.
We had a great turnout for the Christmas tree cutting this year! From what I have heard, the Forest service was pleased! Thank you to all who participated, including the some from the Tacoma Territory club. There were many who thought 4x4 meant 4XANYWHERE! Although I didn’t see any chili this year we still had a good time and got to play in the snow. We learned that even though we are out there to help others, sometimes we need “our” help too. This is what being part of a club is all about! Helping and learning from one another, among
other things.
Don’t forget, the next meeting is going to be at Kendal’s house since it will be our
Christmas party. I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a wonderful new year!

I’m pullin’ for ya!”

CLC Christmas
Party ~ December 21, 2004
Get ready, get set, and plan to come to CLC’s Christmas party. Kendall has graciously volunteered, once again, to host the party. The date is the normal meeting date, so you won’t have to worry about scuffling time. And, yes, we will be doing a real no-gag exchange. We were looking at something in the $10 to $15 range. And food, we do like food, so plan on bringing a favorite side dish that will go well with a honey baked ham. Desserts are good too!

It’s that time of year. Cold mornings and my FJ40 is just a little balky until it gets really warmed up. I’ve been through this before; in fact it happens every year, starting in when the government mandate dictates that motor fuel must be “oxygenated” for the winter months from Nov 1st through Feb 28th (29th). So it will burn better, cleaner. So we won’t have as much vehicle generated pollution. So we’ll all be healthier. So my old carbeurator(ed) FJ40 will run like it’s on its last legs. I used to have an easy fix. I would just drive up the pass to Woodland Park and fill my tank. Teller County was exempt from the requirement, so I could buy real gas up there and not have this balky problem. And it worked - easy fix to a nagging problem. But now, this route is no longer available. In the past, I have cleaned the carb, changed plugs, checked timing, all the normal tune-up stuff. And to no avail. Just change to real gas, and ‘poof’ the problem goes away. But then there is another fix. Good one too. All I need to do is fuel inject my FJ40. Really simple to do too. Downey has a kit to adapt a GM 4.3L throttle body and computer to work with F and 2F Landcruisers. Works really slick, or so I’m told. Even gets more power, and better fuel mileage, or so I’m told. And for the cost – I’m guessing about a grand here – it’s a pretty good deal. Another really simple way to do it is to get another model of GM EFI, one that is bolted on top of a SBC, one that has a built on power steering pump, one that delivers about twice the power and torque – without question.. Maybe a little more involved in installation, but there are many choices on doing an installation. I think this is a good route to go, even though the cost is more. No guesswork on what the results will be.
See you on the trail.

Next CLC Meeting ~
December 21, 2004 7:00PM
Christmas Party at Kendall’s. Come and hear first hand about how CLC extracted an errant F350, which had an inop front axle. And hear first hand about how Norm broke and modified his windshield and frame. Hear how it is possible to break a birfield in snow, and how it takes a train to make a successful extraction. All this and more at CLC’s annual Christmas Party. See page One for the map.
